FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do the Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé wine tour as a day trip from Paris?
The vineyards sit about a two-hour drive from Paris, which makes Sancerre one of the closest great wine areas to the capital. Your driver-guide handles the road so you can taste at every stop. Your trip designer can confirm pickup arrangements for a day out of Paris or from a hotel in the area.
Which wineries do we visit on the Sancerre tour?
You start at a historic family estate at the foot of the Côte des Monts Damnés, run by the same family for ten generations, with cellars on both sides of the village of Chavignol. Next comes the Maison des Sancerre, opened in 2005, with panoramic views and interactive exhibits. The day ends at a modern winery run by four generations of the same family.
What is Crottin de Chavignol?
It is a small round goat cheese from the village of Chavignol, right in the Sancerre vineyards. At the first estate you taste it alongside the wines, which is the classic local pairing: the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc works well with the tang of the goat cheese.
What is the difference between Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé?
Both are white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc, and they face each other across the Loire. Sancerre lies on the west bank and also makes reds and rosés from Pinot Noir. Pouilly-Fumé, on the east bank around Pouilly-sur-Loire, is only white. On this tour you taste Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and other local wines.
