The tides shape the landscape: twice a day the Mont goes from island to mainland. Since 2014, a raised footbridge links it to the shore, so you can reach the village at any time. Visitors park on the mainland and take a shuttle or walk across. The tides matter most if you want to walk the bay, which must be done with a guide.
Is Mont-Saint-Michel hard to visit with limited mobility?
It can be. The village climbs steeply on cobblestone lanes, and reaching the abbey means about 350 steps, with narrow passages and a spiral staircase inside. If anyone in your group has trouble with stairs, tell your trip designer so the visit can be planned around it.
Can I combine Mont-Saint-Michel and the D-Day beaches on the same trip?
