FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

The star is Melon de Bourgogne, the grape behind Muscadet. White wines also use Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc and range from dry to sparkling. Reds are mainly Cabernet Franc, with some Gamay and Pinot Noir. It is a region best known for fresh whites that go very well with seafood.

You begin at a 16th-century château surrounded by Melon de Bourgogne vines, then visit the town of Clisson. After that comes a family estate making organic Muscadet, a stop at the Pont Caffino viewpoint, and a final tasting paired with tapas at a modern winery in the vineyards. A private driver-guide leads the day.

Clisson was rebuilt in the 19th century in an Italian style, which gives this corner of the Nantes vineyards red brick villas and tiled roofs you would expect further south. You walk its narrow streets of half-timbered houses and see the 15th-century market hall, one of the largest and best preserved in France.

The last winery serves its wines with tapas, so you finish the day with a proper food pairing. Lunch is not detailed on the page. Ask your trip designer to plan a restaurant stop in Clisson or at one of the estates if you want a sit-down meal.
