FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
What wines is Anjou known for?
Anjou, around Angers, is Chenin Blanc country, grown on schist soils. Savennières and Anjou Blanc make dry whites with depth, while the Layon and Aubance valleys produce world-class sweet wines. The region also makes Cabernet Franc reds and rosés from dry to sweet.
What happens at the Savennières winery?
You visit a rural estate in the hills of Savennières, run by three generations of women winemakers. You walk through the château's large rooms and its historic library, then stroll the gardens. The tasting pairs their dry white wines with carefully selected French cheeses or premium chocolate.
Which wineries do we visit in the Layon valley and Bonnezeaux?
In the Layon valley you visit a cellar on a hilltop among the vines, with wide views over the valley, where a team of winemakers crafts wines from several terroirs. The day ends at a Bonnezeaux estate founded in the 11th century, now run by a family keeping its reputation for sweet wine alive.
Is the Anjou wine tour OK if I don’t like sweet wine?
Yes. Savennières is one of the Loire's great dry whites, and Anjou also makes Cabernet Franc reds and rosés. Sweet wines from the Layon and Bonnezeaux are part of the day, but your driver-guide can steer tastings toward drier styles. Let your trip designer know your preferences.
