FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Can kids dress up as knights and princesses at Rivau?
Yes, that is the highlight of the visit. Children choose their own costumes: flowing gowns, tiaras and slippers for princesses, or armor, swords and helmets for knights. They then explore the castle grounds and the gardens in character, which makes for great photos and a lot of fun.
What is the Château du Rivau like?
Rivau is a medieval fortress turned into a Renaissance castle, with 15th-century walls, a drawbridge and secret passages. Its gardens are full of flowers and playful sculptures, including a rose garden. It is a real-life fairytale setting that suits children well.
What do families do at the Chinon fortress?
You explore the royal fortress where Joan of Arc came to meet the future king. Kids can climb the ramparts and towers and take in wide views over the Vienne valley. Your guide brings the battles and intrigue of the place to life.
Where are Rivau and Chinon?
Both are in Touraine, in the western part of the Loire Valley, and Rivau stands a short drive south of Chinon. You travel between the two in a private vehicle with your driver-guide, who takes care of the logistics so the day stays relaxed for the children and for you.
