Who leads the floral workshop at Chenonceau castle?
The workshop is led by Jean-François Boucher, whose award-winning arrangements decorate the château. You join him in his private studio at Chenonceau for one hour and create your own bouquet under his guidance, then take it with you as a fragrant souvenir of the day. The visit of Chenonceau follows the workshop.
Do I need flower-arranging experience for the Chenonceau workshop?
The program does not ask for any. The florist guides you through your bouquet during a one-hour session in his studio. If you have concerns about standing at a worktable for an hour, or an allergy to flowers or pollen, let your trip designer know ahead of time so they can plan around it.
How many flowers are planted in Villandry’s gardens?
More than 115,000 flowers and vegetables are planted at Villandry each year. On this tour you walk its three levels: the vegetable garden, the formal ornamental gardens laid out in geometric patterns, and the upper level with the water garden and the Garden of the Sun. It is a fitting end to a day that started with your own bouquet.
What’s the difference between this floral tour and the Chenonceau and Chaumont-sur-Loire tour?
Both start with the same one-hour workshop with the Chenonceau florist, followed by a visit of the château. The afternoon is what changes: this tour ends in Villandry's classic Renaissance gardens, while the other goes to Chaumont-sur-Loire for its International Garden Festival of contemporary designs and the château's art installations. The festival is seasonal, so outside its dates this Villandry version is the natural choice.
