FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the bike and kayak day around Chenonceau?
The full experience lasts about nine hours. It combines a morning bike ride along the Cher, a picnic by the river, an afternoon kayak trip under the château and a guided visit of the Château de Chenonceau. A private guide stays with you from start to finish.
Where does the bike ride go?
You cycle for about an hour and a half along the Cher River through green countryside to the town of Montrichard. This 11th-century medieval town has a keep, fortifications, cobbled streets and wide views over the Cher valley, so it makes a pleasant stop before the picnic.
What is in the picnic?
Lunch is a picnic on the banks of the Cher with local foods: rillettes, cheeses, wine and fresh bread. It is a relaxed break between the morning ride and the afternoon kayak trip. If anyone in your group has dietary restrictions, tell your trip designer ahead of time so it can be planned.
What is it like to kayak under Chenonceau?
In the afternoon you swap your bike for a kayak and paddle down the Cher, passing beneath the arches of the château, which spans the river. Seeing Chenonceau from water level gives you a completely different view of its architecture than you get from the gardens or the inside.
Do we go inside Chenonceau after kayaking?
Yes. After the kayak trip, your guide leads a tour of the interiors, with their tapestries, furniture and artwork, and tells the stories of the women who shaped the château. You then walk through the gardens and their many flowers and plants before the day ends.
